I am grateful to Seán MacAonghusa for
providing the following very useful listing. From a genealogical point of
view it is interesting to see the survival of surnames in the parish from
the mid-17th century to the 20th century, something
that should provide great scope for genealogical research.
The earliest
Roman Catholic Parish records date from 1752 for baptisms and marriages.
Unfortunately the Church of Ireland records were lost, the earliest (for
Haynestown) being 1865 - baptisms; 1855 - marriages; 1871 – burials, all
within the range of Civil Registration. However, it is worth checking the
records of the neighbouring Church of Ireland Parish of Dundalk where some
of the surnames may be found.
For Memorial Inscriptions and other
historical, topographical, local, photographic, and genealogical information on the parish see, Noel Sharkey,

This is an excellent publication.
