Here are two pictures of St. Lawrence's Gate at the turn of the 20th Century from both inside and outside the old town walls. The photograph on the left, the more unusual view, was taken from the Cord Road, outside the Town Gate, and comes from a Wrench postcard of 1899. Note the shop on the left. The other picture, inside the Town Gate, is a Valentine postcard dated 1905, taken from St. Lawrence's Street. Through the gate on the right you can see the sweep from the corner shop, up the Cord Road.
